Bernie Sanders gets up following AOC-related “This Week” question

Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., made headlines during a recent pre-taped ABC “This Week” interview when he called out Jonathan Karl for asking a “nonsense” question about Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., potentially running for Senate. Despite praising AOC as “extraordinary,” Sanders avoided directly answering whether he would like to see her in the Senate. Speculation has been swirling about Ocasio-Cortez challenging Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer in a primary following his support of a government funding bill to prevent a partial shutdown.
During the interview, Sanders abruptly got up from his seat after dismissing Karl’s question, stating, “Right now, we have, as I said, just a whole lot of people in the Congress. OK, Jonathan. Thanks.” Karl attempted to bring Sanders back to his seat for one more question, to which Sanders reluctantly agreed.
When asked about his future in politics, Sanders responded, “Right now, I am very proud that the people of the state of Vermont sent me back to the Senate with 63% of the vote. Right now I’m Vermont’s senator. That’s what I do, and I’m very happy to do it. I am 83 years of age, so. And I’m tired.”
The interaction between Sanders and Karl was captured in a series of images from the interview, showcasing the tense moment between the two. Despite the awkward exchange, Sanders and Ocasio-Cortez have continued to make joint appearances, rallying together on various issues.
The incident highlights the ongoing speculation surrounding Ocasio-Cortez’s political future and the dynamics within the Democratic Party. As Sanders remains focused on his role as Vermont’s senator, the political landscape continues to evolve with rising stars like Ocasio-Cortez making waves in the party.
