Bernie Sanders rips Trump, ‘billionaire class’ at Coachella intro of Clairo

Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., made a surprise appearance at the Coachella music festival on Saturday, where he took the stage to address the crowd of luxury music festival-goers. Sanders, a self-described Democratic socialist, used the platform to deride President Donald Trump and “billionaires,” urging the younger generation to take a stand for justice.

Joined by Rep. Maxwell Frost, D-Fla., Sanders praised the 26-year-old artist Clairo for her political activism and encouraged the crowd to stand up and fight for economic justice, social justice, and racial justice. He emphasized the importance of the younger generation in shaping the future of America and called on them to resist the challenges facing the country.

Sanders criticized President Trump for his stance on climate change, calling it a dangerous misconception. He urged the crowd to stand up to the fossil fuel industry and work towards protecting the planet. He also highlighted the efforts to restrict women’s rights in various states and called for support in ensuring women have control over their own bodies.

The former presidential candidate also addressed the economic disparity in the country, pointing out that the current system benefits the wealthy while neglecting working families. He called for a more inclusive economy that works for everyone, not just the top 1%. Sanders also touched on the broken healthcare system in the U.S. and stressed the importance of healthcare as a human right.

Sanders expressed his support for Clairo and her activism, particularly in advocating for women’s rights and ending the conflict in Gaza. However, his remarks against “billionaires” were met with criticism online, with some pointing out the high ticket prices for the Coachella festival.

Despite the backlash, Sanders remained firm in his message, emphasizing the need for the younger generation to lead in addressing pressing issues such as climate change, women’s rights, and economic equality. He later appeared with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in Los Angeles for their “Fighting Oligarchy” event, where they continued to condemn billionaires and the Trump administration.

Sanders’ appearance at Coachella and his subsequent events underscored his ongoing commitment to progressive causes and his unwavering determination to fight for a more just and equitable society.
