Biden congratulates Trump, pledges ‘peaceful and orderly’ transfer of power
President Biden’s Address to the Nation Following the 2024 Presidential Election
President Biden made a historic address from the Rose Garden on Thursday, following Vice President Kamala Harris’s concession of the 2024 presidential election to President-elect Trump. In his speech, Biden expressed his commitment to a peaceful and orderly transition of power, stating that the entire Biden administration will work with Trump’s team to ensure a smooth transfer of power.
Biden revealed that he had spoken with Trump the day before to congratulate him on his victory. He praised Harris for running an inspiring campaign, highlighting her character and resilience. The President emphasized the importance of unity in the face of political differences, calling on Americans to see each other as fellow citizens rather than adversaries.
Addressing concerns about the integrity of the electoral system, Biden reassured the nation that the 2024 election was honest, fair, and transparent. He expressed hope that this election would put to rest any doubts about the credibility of the American electoral process, regardless of the outcome.
The televised address came shortly after Harris conceded the election on Wednesday. In a staff memo, her campaign manager and Biden ally Jen O’Malley Dillon described the defeat as “unfathomably painful.” Despite the disappointment, Dillon vowed to continue working to protect America from the impacts of a Trump Presidency.
