Biden sinks to all-time low, while Trump’s numbers rise, in new national poll

President Biden’s approval rating is at an all-time low with just one month left in office. According to a recent Marquette Law School national poll conducted from Dec. 2-11, only 34% of Americans approve of the job Biden has done as president, while a staggering 66% disapprove. This marks a significant drop from October and is the lowest approval rating Biden has received since taking office four years ago.
Throughout his first term, Biden’s approval rating fluctuated between the low to mid-50s. However, his numbers began to decline in August 2021 following criticism of his handling of the U.S. exit from Afghanistan and a surge in COVID-19 cases. Additionally, factors such as inflation and the influx of migrants at the southern border have contributed to the decline in approval ratings.
In contrast, former President Donald Trump’s approval rating has seen a slight increase, with 53% of adults nationwide approving of his job performance during his first term in office. This is the highest approval rating Trump has received since March. The public is divided on Trump’s cabinet appointments for his second administration, with 49% approving and 51% disapproving.
The Marquette survey also shows that Trump’s favorable rating is at 49%, his highest since leaving office. Vice President Kamala Harris, on the other hand, has seen a decline in her approval rating, dropping from 45% to 41% favorable. Vice President-elect Sen. JD Vance has a 35% favorable rating in the new survey.
Overall, the Marquette Law School poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.6 percentage points. These findings highlight the shifting perceptions of key political figures as the Biden administration nears its end and the transition to the new administration begins.
