Big second half spurs Stampeders to win over Roughriders

The Calgary Stampeders came out victorious in a thrilling 32-15 win over the Saskatchewan Roughriders at McMahon Stadium on Saturday, August 23, 2025. The game saw a second-half surge from the Stampeders that kept them in the hunt for first place in the CFL’s West Division.
Trailing by a point at halftime, Calgary turned up the heat in the second half with an 18-point burst, fueled by a stellar defensive performance that shut down the Roughriders in the third and fourth quarters. The 28,295 fans in attendance were treated to an exciting display of football as the Stampeders put on a show on both ends of the field.
Quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. led the charge for Calgary, throwing for 222 yards and three touchdowns, while also adding a rushing touchdown and a two-point conversion. The Stampeders’ receiving corps came up big with Jaylen Philpot, Daylen Baldwin, and Erik Brooks each hauling in a touchdown pass.
Despite a valiant effort from the Roughriders, who got touchdown receptions from Dohnte Meyers and Dhel Duncan-Busby, they were unable to overcome Calgary’s dominant second-half performance. Saskatchewan quarterback Trevor Harris threw for 205 yards and two touchdowns but was intercepted twice as the Stampeders’ defense stepped up when it mattered most.
Calgary’s offensive line also deserves credit for keeping Adams protected throughout the game, as he was not sacked once. In contrast, Harris was sacked four times by a relentless Stampeder defense, with Clarence Hicks leading the way with two sacks.
The win was a statement victory for Calgary, who now sits just behind Saskatchewan in the West Division standings. With the playoffs looming, both teams know they could meet again down the road, and the Stampeders will be looking to carry their momentum into the postseason.
In the end, it was a complete team effort from Calgary that secured the win, with contributions from both the offense and defense. As the regular season winds down, the Stampeders will be looking to build on this performance and make a push for the top spot in the division.
