Bills offensive lineman retires at age 26 due to nerve damage from latest injury

Former Buffalo Bills offensive lineman Tommy Doyle has officially announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 26. The decision to retire comes as a result of permanent injuries that have plagued Doyle, preventing him from continuing his career on the field.

Doyle last appeared in a game during Week 3 of the 2022 season, and a devastating injury sustained during the 2023 preseason left him with nerve damage that has hindered his ability to play at a high level. Despite his best efforts to recover from an ACL tear in 2022, Doyle was faced with yet another setback that ultimately led to his retirement.

“In this moment, with the passage of time and the healing process, it appears that these injuries are permanent. I have come to the realization that I am no longer able to perform at the level required for professional football, and I believe it is time to move on,” Doyle stated.

Reflecting on his time in the NFL, Doyle expressed gratitude for the relationships he formed with his teammates, coaches, trainers, and fans. He emphasized the camaraderie within the Buffalo Bills organization and the special bond shared among the players in the locker room.

“Football has been a passion of mine, and I have dedicated a significant portion of my life to the sport. While I poured my heart and soul into trying to make a comeback, it is clear to me now that it is not in the cards. I believe that this is the right time to announce my retirement and transition to the next chapter of my life,” Doyle added.

Drafted in the fifth round out of Miami of Ohio in 2021, Doyle made a memorable impact during his rookie season when he caught a touchdown pass in the wild-card round against the New England Patriots. His contributions on the field will be remembered by fans and teammates alike.

As Doyle bids farewell to his football career, he expressed gratitude for the support and memories he has cherished during his time with the Buffalo Bills. While his journey on the field has come to an end, Doyle looks forward to the future and the opportunities that lie ahead.
