Blast of wintry weather on the way for Nova Scotia

A messy mix of wintry weather is on the horizon for northern Nova Scotia tonight, with snow and freezing rain expected to make an appearance. The incoming storm is set to bring the heaviest snowfall to New Brunswick, but Cumberland County and Colchester north may also see accumulations near 15 centimeters by Monday afternoon.
Just south of that line, a messy mix of snow, freezing rain, and rain is expected across northern Nova Scotia. The Annapolis Valley, Hants, Truro, southern Cumberland County, and the Northumberland Shore are most likely to experience this mix overnight and through the Monday morning commute.
A slight shift in track could significantly impact the forecast, with Colchester, Cumberland, and the Northumberland Shore region at the greatest risk of seeing four to eight hours of freezing rain Sunday night and Monday. Further south, 10 to 30 millimeters of rain, drizzle, and fog patches are expected overnight and into Monday morning. Drivers should be prepared for pea-soup thick fog in some areas.
As the winds shift to the northwest on Monday morning, with gusts of 40-50 km/h, temperatures will begin to drop. Watch out for icy spots developing as temperatures fall into the -3°C to -7°C range by late afternoon, causing any standing water to freeze.
Temperatures will continue to drop through Monday night, with Nova Scotia seeing temperatures of -12°C to -18°C by Tuesday morning, with wind chill values in the minus 20s. Stay safe and stay warm as the winter weather moves in.
