Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, a Democrat, has strongly opposed President Donald Trump’s proposal to deploy the National Guard to Chicago, dismissing it as an attempt to “manufacture a crisis.”

Pritzker made it clear that there is no emergency in the state that warrants federal intervention, stating that Illinois has not received any requests from the federal government for assistance.

This comes in the wake of Trump’s decision to increase federal law enforcement presence in Washington, D.C., with hundreds of agents and National Guard troops deployed to address crime in the district.

Trump has now set his sights on Chicago as the next target for a federal crackdown on crime.

According to reports, the Pentagon has been planning a military deployment to Chicago for weeks, which could involve mobilizing thousands of National Guard troops next month.

Pritzker reiterated his commitment to the safety of Illinois residents, emphasizing that there is no justification for federalizing the Illinois National Guard or deploying troops from other states within the state’s borders.

The governor accused Trump of attempting to create a crisis for political gain and vowed to uphold the law and protect the sovereignty of Illinois.

Democratic Leaders Condemn Trump’s Plan

Lieutenant Governor Juliana Stratton condemned Trump’s decision, accusing him of creating chaos for political gain at the expense of the community.

She emphasized the progress made in criminal justice reform under the Pritzker-Stratton administration and criticized Trump’s agenda as harmful to working families.

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson also voiced opposition to the potential deployment of the National Guard, citing the city’s progress in reducing crime and warning against actions that could undermine trust between residents and law enforcement.
