Blue Jays hire former Reds manager David Bell to be VP of baseball operations, assistant GM

The Toronto Blue Jays have made a significant addition to their front office staff, hiring former Cincinnati Reds manager David Bell as the team’s vice-president of baseball operations and assistant general manager. This move was announced by the Blue Jays in a press release on Friday.

In his new role, Bell will have a wide range of responsibilities, including overseeing the player development and physical and mental performance departments. He will also play a key role in strategic planning, player evaluations, and acquisitions for the team. Bell will report directly to Ross Atkins, the executive vice president of baseball operations and general manager for the Blue Jays.

Bell brings a wealth of experience to his new position, having spent the last six seasons as the manager of the Reds. Prior to his time as a manager, he worked in various coaching and player development roles with organizations such as the Reds, Chicago Cubs, St. Louis Cardinals, and San Francisco Giants. Bell also had a successful playing career, spending 17 seasons as an infielder with six different organizations. He even played for the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons in 1995.

This new hiring signals the Blue Jays’ commitment to building a strong front office team to support their on-field success. With Bell’s diverse background in player development, coaching, and management, he is well-equipped to help lead the Blue Jays to future success. Fans can expect to see his impact on the team’s performance in the seasons to come.
