Toronto Blue Jays Sign Left-Handed Pitcher Josh Walker to One-Year Deal

The Toronto Blue Jays made a significant move on Friday, announcing the signing of left-handed pitcher Josh Walker to a one-year contract worth $760,000 US. The 30-year-old hurler brings experience and depth to the Blue Jays’ bullpen for the upcoming season.

Walker, who hails from Otisville, N.Y., had a brief stint with the New York Mets in 2024, making 10 appearances for the team. However, he spent the majority of the season at the Triple-A level with Syracuse before being traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates organization mid-season.

Throughout the 2024 season, Walker showcased his skills in 43 total games at various levels, finishing with a respectable 4.32 earned-run average. Standing tall at six-foot-six and weighing in at 225 pounds, the left-handed reliever adds a different dimension to the Blue Jays’ pitching staff.

Originally drafted by the Mets in the 37th round of the 2017 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of New Haven, Walker made his MLB debut for the team in 2023. His journey to the big leagues has been one of hard work and perseverance, and he is eager to contribute to the Blue Jays’ success in the upcoming season.

In a corresponding move, the Blue Jays designated right-hander Hagen Danner for assignment to make room for Walker on the roster. The team is excited about the potential impact that Walker can have and looks forward to seeing him in action on the mound.
