Blue state AGs accuse Vance of spreading ‘dangerous lie’ following VP’s online criticism of judges

Blue state attorneys general are pushing back against Vice President JD Vance’s recent comments criticizing judges who have blocked President Donald Trump’s agenda. In a joint statement released on Friday, attorneys general from 17 states, including California, Connecticut, Arizona, Massachusetts, and Washington, condemned Vance’s remarks as a “dangerous lie.”

The statement emphasized the importance of checks and balances in the government, stating that the judiciary serves as a check on unlawful actions by the executive and legislative branches. The attorneys general made it clear that no one, including the Vice President, is above the law.

Vance’s comments came after a court blocked the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) from accessing personal data, leading to more than 50 lawsuits against the Trump administration since the beginning of his second term. Judges in various states have repeatedly blocked the administration’s efforts to implement its agenda, prompting Vance to argue that judges should not interfere with the executive branch’s legitimate power.

The attorneys general pledged to carefully scrutinize the administration’s actions and intervene if they violate the Constitution or federal law. They defended the role of judges in upholding the rule of law and protecting the American people, democracy, and the legal system.

U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi also voiced her support for Trump’s agenda, criticizing “unelected” judges for obstructing the administration’s efforts. Bondi vowed to challenge these judicial rulings and ensure that the separation of powers is respected.

Since Trump’s inauguration, numerous lawsuits have been filed challenging his executive orders on birthright citizenship, immigration policies, federal funding, and the implementation of DOGE. The Trump administration has appealed many of these rulings to higher courts, including a recent appeal in Rhode Island that was ultimately denied.

Democratic attorneys general, such as New York Attorney General Letitia James, have been vocal in their opposition to the Trump administration’s actions and have vowed to engage in legal battles to protect their residents.

As the legal battles continue, it is clear that the role of the judiciary in checking the powers of the executive branch will remain a contentious issue. The attorneys general are committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that no one is above the law, including the Vice President.
