Body recovered from Gold River believed to be remains of missing man

GOLD RIVER, N.S. — Police have recovered what they believe to be the body of a 31-year-old man who disappeared while tubing in Gold River in Lunenburg County.

In a news release on Friday, RCMP said a passerby spotted a body floating in the water near where the Gold River meets the ocean just before 7:30 a.m.

Police and fire crews retrieved the body, and investigators are working with the Nova Scotia medical examiner to identify the remains.

The man went missing while tubing with two others on the river near Beech Hill Road on Monday. The three men ended up in the water after their tubes capsized.

Two of the men made it to the shore, but the third was seen drifting down the river.

A search was launched but was called off the following day after police said the man was believed to have been swept out to sea.
