Bondi seeks to reverse Biden death row commutations

U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi is taking a stand against the last-hour commutations for death row murderers that were granted by former President Joe Biden. In a bold move, Bondi is directing state officials to pursue the death penalty against the inmates whose sentences were commuted.

In a letter sent to Department of Justice (DOJ) employees, Bondi criticized Biden for undermining the justice system and subverting the rule of law by granting the commutations. Furthermore, the Federal Bureau of Prisons will ensure that the conditions of confinement for each of the commuted murderers are consistent with the security risks they pose due to their egregious crimes and criminal histories.

In a late-December decision, Biden removed 37 inmates from federal death row and reclassified their sentences to life without the possibility of parole. This move was aimed at preventing the execution of sentences that would not be handed down under current policy and practice.

However, Bondi’s actions seek to reverse these commutations and ensure that justice is served for the victims’ families. She has made it clear that her main goal as Attorney General is to root out political influence and weaponization from the DOJ, ensuring one tier of justice for all.
