Border Patrol reports record 24-hour low 95 southern border crossings

The Trump administration’s border czar, Tom Homan, recently praised President Trump’s leadership, stating that it has resulted in the most secure border in U.S. history. Homan highlighted a significant achievement by Border Patrol, encountering just 95 illegal immigrants in a single day, the lowest number ever recorded. In contrast, the Biden administration has seen more than 10,000 illegal immigrants per day.
Homan criticized the Biden administration for releasing the “vast majority” of the illegal immigrants encountered by border patrol agents back into the U.S. He emphasized that during the Trump administration, zero illegal immigrants were released in May, compared to the 62,000 released under Biden in May 2024, marking the first time a two-digit number was recorded at the border.
The decrease in illegal immigrants encountered at the border signifies tighter security measures put in place. Border Patrol officers have noted a decrease in “gotaways” to chase, indicating a more secure border. Homan called for the passage of the Big Beautiful Bill to ensure the continuation of these efforts and the biggest deportation operation that the American people have voted for.
Since Trump’s return to the Oval Office in January, there has been a consistent trend of releasing a shockingly low number of illegal immigrants. Homan highlighted that only nine illegal aliens were released under the Trump administration, compared to the hundreds or thousands released under Biden in a single day.
In a rare move, four of the nine released illegal immigrants were material witnesses in a criminal investigation, while four had extreme medical conditions that prevented their return. One release was due to humanitarian reasons. This contrasts sharply with the high number of releases under the Biden administration.
Data from U.S. Customs and Border Protection showed that on December 22, 2023, 4,832 illegal immigrants were released in a single day, with just under 9,000 migrant encounters. The CBP One app, now known as the CBP Home app, played a role in facilitating some of these releases, prompting individuals seeking entry to the country for the next steps.
Overall, the Trump administration’s strict border policies have resulted in a significant decrease in illegal immigration encounters, contributing to a more secure border. As the debate over immigration policy continues, it is clear that Trump’s approach has had a substantial impact on border security.
