Brad Jacobs rallies past Matt Dunstone to claim 2nd Brier title in dramatic final

Alberta’s Brad Jacobs emerged victorious at the Brier on Sunday night, defeating Manitoba’s Matt Dunstone in a thrilling 5-3 final at Prospera Place in Kelowna, B.C. Jacobs sealed the win with a clutch hit for three in the 10th end, securing his second career Brier title.

“I knew it was good when I let her go,” Jacobs remarked. “That was pure. It was great.” Jacobs, accompanied by his team of Marc Kennedy, Brett Gallant, and Ben Hebert, displayed exceptional skill and composure throughout the match, ultimately outplaying his opponent.

The highly anticipated matchup saw Dunstone, the top-ranked contender, take on Jacobs, the second-ranked skip. The game started off with four blank ends before Dunstone managed to draw for two points. However, Jacobs quickly responded, earning a steal in the following end after Dunstone’s misstep on a double takeout.

As the game progressed, tensions ran high as both teams fought for every point. In the end, Jacobs came out on top, securing the victory and his ticket to represent Canada at the upcoming world men’s curling championship in Moose Jaw, Sask.

Earlier in the day, Jacobs faced off against Brad Gushue in a thrilling semifinal match, which ended in a 7-5 victory for Jacobs. Gushue, a formidable opponent and reigning Brier champion, narrowly missed his chance to clinch the win with a final throw that fell short.

The final result marked Jacobs’ first Brier final since 2015, showcasing his resilience and determination on the ice. With this win, Jacobs and his team earned a significant portion of the total purse, with Jacobs taking home $108,000.
