Bragg case ‘effectively over’ in ‘major victory,’ Trump officials say

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s case against President-elect Donald Trump is facing a major setback as Bragg has requested a stay until 2029, effectively putting the case on hold. Trump officials have hailed this development as a \”major victory\” for the President-elect.

Bragg’s request for a stay in New York v. Trump until 2029 comes as the president’s attorneys motion to dismiss the case entirely. While New York prosecutors are likely to oppose the argument, they have expressed openness to being briefed on the defense’s case for complete dismissal.

According to sources close to Trump, prosecutors are \”trying to save face\” and their fallback is a \”five-year delay.\” However, Trump officials are confident that the case will ultimately be thrown out. Trump spokesman Steven Cheung called Bragg’s request for a stay a \”total and definitive victory\” for President Trump and the American people.

Trump pleaded not guilty to 34 counts of falsifying business records in the first degree as part of a years-long investigation related to alleged hush money payments. After a six-week-long trial, a jury found the president guilty on all counts. However, Judge Juan Merchan recently granted a stay on all deadlines associated with the conviction proceedings.

Trump’s legal team is now seeking to have the guilty verdict overturned, citing the United States Supreme Court’s decision that former presidents have substantial immunity from prosecution for official acts. They argue that certain evidence presented during the trial should not have been admitted as they were considered \”official acts.\”

Specifically, Trump’s attorneys argue that evidence presented by Bragg, including testimony from former White House officials and Trump’s disclosures to the Office of Government Ethics, violated the Presidential immunity doctrine established by the Supreme Court. They are seeking to have the charges dismissed based on this argument.

As the case against Trump faces uncertainty, the President-elect’s legal team remains confident that the charges will be ultimately dismissed. The fate of the case now rests on Judge Merchan’s ruling on the immunity argument. With the defense planning to file a motion for dismissal, the future of the case remains uncertain.

In the midst of legal battles and challenges, President-elect Trump is preparing to take office as the 47th President of the United States. As the legal proceedings unfold, the focus remains on ensuring a smooth transition of power and addressing the challenges facing the nation.
