Brazilian President Lula in ICU after surgery to drain head hemorrhage, hospital says

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is currently recovering in an intensive-care unit following surgery for an intracranial hemorrhage, according to a statement from the Sirio-Libanes hospital. The 79-year-old leader underwent the procedure after experiencing headaches that doctors believed were a result of a fall at home in October.
Lula, a leftist leader, traveled from Brasilia to Sao Paulo, a distance of 620 miles, to receive treatment at the hospital. The hospital reported that he is “well, under monitoring in an ICU bed” after the bleeding was drained.
The incident has caused concern among Brazilians, with the presidency yet to issue any official comment on the matter. Lula had to cancel a planned trip to Russia for a BRICS summit following the accident, which left him with a visible cut on the back of his head, just above his neck.
A press conference is scheduled to be held at 9 a.m. local time to provide further details on the surgery and Lula’s condition.
