Britta Curl-Salemme lifts Frost to OT win over Fleet

Britta Curl-Salemme Scores Game-Winning Goal in Overtime to Lift Minnesota Frost over Boston Fleet
In a thrilling matchup on Thursday night in St. Paul, Minn., Britta Curl-Salemme scored a goal with just 13 seconds remaining in overtime to help the Minnesota Frost secure a 4-3 victory over the Boston Fleet.
The game-winning play came after a turnover by Boston, as Kendall Coyne Schofield made a perfect pass to Curl-Salemme on a breakaway. Curl-Salemme managed to beat goaltender Aerin Frankel with a precise shot over an outstretched leg in the dying seconds of the game.
Minnesota got off to a strong start with Claire Butorac scoring a goal midway through the second period. Brooke Bryant quickly followed up with her first goal of the season just 43 seconds later, giving the Frost a 2-0 lead.
Hilary Knight managed to get Boston on the scoreboard with a goal about seven minutes into the third period, but Brooke McQuigge responded quickly, extending Minnesota’s lead to 3-1.
However, Boston fought back hard with Susanna Tapani scoring a backhanded goal with just 3:17 left in regulation. Tapani then scored again just 49 seconds later to tie the game and force overtime.
Despite the Fleet’s valiant effort, they have now lost three games in a row and have been outscored 11-6 over that span. On the other hand, Minnesota, coming off a 3-2 loss to the New York Sirens, has now won five of their last six games.
Although Boston dominated play in the third period, outshooting Minnesota 13-7, the Fleet will need to maintain that energy level for the full 60 minutes of play in future games.
It was evident that Minnesota took their foot off the gas after building a 2-0 lead, but they managed to make crucial plays on both ends of the ice when it mattered most.
Looking ahead, Boston will face off against the Montreal Victoire on Sunday, while Minnesota will continue their home stand at Xcel Energy Center with a game against the New York Sirens on Saturday.
