Browns’ Jameis Winston prays for the ‘Lord to deliver’ him from pick-sixes after throwing 2 in their loss

Cleveland Browns quarterback Jameis Winston had a rollercoaster performance in the team’s 41-32 loss to the Denver Broncos on Monday night. The 30-year-old QB set a career-high and Browns franchise record with 497 passing yards, along with four touchdowns. However, he also threw three interceptions, including two costly pick-sixes.

Reflecting on his performance after the game, Winston expressed his disappointment, stating, “In times like this, it’s the opportunity to continue to grow for the lord, even through the toughest circumstances. I know I’m better than this, I know, like I’m just praying for the lord to deliver me from pick-sixes. Like that’s just not me. Like phenomenal game, offense did some great things, but I messed it up.”

The first pick-six came late in the second quarter when the Browns were trailing 14-10. Winston attempted to check down to tight end Jordan Akins, but linebacker Nik Bonitto intercepted the pass and returned it 71 yards for a touchdown. Despite this setback, Winston bounced back and connected with David Njoku for a touchdown just before halftime.

The second pick-six came in the final minutes of the game with the Browns down 34-32. Winston’s pass intended for Elijah Moore was intercepted by cornerback Ja’Quan McMillan, who returned it for a touchdown, sealing the victory for the Broncos.

Throughout his career, Winston has been known for his aggressive playing style, with a high number of both touchdowns and interceptions. In 2019, he led the NFL in passing yards but also threw 30 interceptions.

Despite the loss, Winston’s 497 passing yards marked the fifth time in his career that he has surpassed the 400-yard mark in a game. As the Browns’ starter in place of the injured Deshaun Watson, Winston has a record of 2-3, completing 61.3% of his passes for 1763 yards, 11 touchdowns, and seven interceptions.
