In a groundbreaking development, text messages between two surviving roommates from the tragic home invasion stabbing attack in Moscow, Idaho, have been revealed for the first time in a newly unsealed court filing. The roommates, identified as DM and BF, were discussing the possibility of a masked trespasser just moments after the attack that claimed the lives of four university students.

DM, the only eyewitness who saw the intruder – described as a masked man with “bushy eyebrows” – in the six-bedroom house, exchanged texts with BF shortly after the attack occurred on November 13, 2022. The attack resulted in the deaths of Madison Mogen, Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin.

The text messages exchanged between DM and BF provided crucial insights into the events that transpired that fateful night. DM attempted to contact the victims before dawn, expressing confusion and concern over the situation. The court filing revealed excerpts from the messages, including DM’s reference to a masked intruder resembling someone wearing a ski mask.

Following the attack, DM and BF communicated via text messages, with DM seeking answers and reassurance about the unfolding events. DM’s attempts to reach the victims went unanswered, leading to a sense of urgency and confusion among the survivors.

Prosecutors are seeking to introduce these text messages as evidence in the case against Bryan Kohberger, the suspect identified through DNA evidence found at the crime scene. Kohberger, a former Ph.D. student studying criminology, is facing charges related to the brutal murders of the four students.

In addition to the text messages, prosecutors plan to present a range of evidence, including banking and shopping records, surveillance video footage, and National Weather Service reports from the night of the crime. These records aim to challenge Kohberger’s alibi and strengthen the case against him.

As the legal proceedings unfold, the defense is pushing to have the death penalty removed as a potential sentence, citing concerns about meeting discovery deadlines and resource limitations. The case continues to garner public attention as the details of the tragic incident come to light.
