Busy under Biden, border sector now nearly abandoned under Trump: ‘Amazing difference’

Veterans who have volunteered to help secure the border in Southern California are praising the efforts of President Donald Trump in cracking down on illegal crossings. Kate Monroe, a Marine Corps veteran and founder of Border Vets, a group of U.S. military veterans who have dedicated their time and resources to patch up holes in the border barrier, has noted a significant difference in border security since Trump took office in January.

Under the Biden administration, the border was plagued with record numbers of illegal crossings, with thousands of migrants pouring through holes in the border barrier. However, since Trump has been in office, the number of border encounters has dropped to historic lows, with CBP data showing just 8,300 people apprehended in February, the lowest monthly total since fiscal 2000.

Members of Border Vets have observed a drastic decrease in people crossing the border in the once-busy sector near Jacumba Hot Springs, California. One area, known as the “San Judas Break,” which saw thousands of migrants spill through weekly, has been effectively closed off by the efforts of the veterans. Monroe and her team have patched up multiple holes in the barrier, using makeshift barriers of razor wire to secure the border.

Border agents have welcomed the help of the volunteer group, acknowledging the positive impact they have had on securing the border. Both CBP agents and Border Vets members have noted the sudden quietness of the once-busy sector, with a makeshift shelter that used to house migrants sitting empty.

While the situation at the border has improved significantly, members of Border Vets remain vigilant, continuing to check on known soft spots along the border to prevent illegal crossings. Their dedication to securing the border stems from a desire to protect the national security of the United States and uphold the integrity of the country.
