Busy week ahead for Trump, cabinet picks

President Donald Trump is gearing up for a busy week to kick off the month of February, with a packed schedule that includes pushing through more confirmations for his Cabinet picks. The president has wasted no time in following through on his promise of imposing new tariffs, with Canada, Mexico, and China being the latest targets.

Over the weekend, Trump announced a 25% duty on imports from Canada and Mexico, as well as a 10% tariff on goods from China. These tariffs are set to take effect by Tuesday and have already sparked retaliation from Canada, with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announcing a 25% tariff on certain U.S. imports. Mexico is also planning to impose tariffs, although the specific details have yet to be revealed.

In addition to the tariff announcements, Monday will see the deadline for six senior FBI officials to either retire, resign, or be fired as part of Trump’s plan to overhaul the agency. The Senate will also vote on Trump’s picks for treasury secretary and transportation secretary on the same day.

Tuesday will bring a meeting between Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House, marking the first face-to-face encounter between the two leaders since Trump’s re-election. The following day, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Trump’s nominee for the Department of Health and Human Services, will testify before the Senate Committee on Finance, while other Cabinet picks will also undergo confirmation hearings.

Thursday will be a pivotal day for federal workers, who will have to decide between returning to the office or accepting a buyout and severance package. The day will also see several Trump Cabinet picks appearing before Senate committees for confirmation votes.
