Calgary International Film Festival with new films with Julia Roberts, Jodie Foster, Award-Winners and Local Gems

The Calgary International Film Festival is set to showcase a lineup of high-profile films and documentaries, featuring big-name stars such as Julia Roberts, Jodie Foster, and Jennifer Lopez. Vancouver rocker Bif Naked will also grace the red carpet at the festival, adding a musical touch to the event.
Scheduled to run from September 18 to 28, the festival will screen a total of 106 feature films and 100 short films from around the globe. Various venues including The Globe, Plaza Theater, Contemporary Calgary, Scotiabank Theater Chinook, and the Grand will host the screenings.
One of the highlights of this year’s festival is the debut screenings featuring state-of-the-art projectors at the Grand and Contemporary Calgary. The Gala on September 23 will kick off with the Alberta premiere of the documentary “The Pitch” about Olympic football player Diane Matheson. The festival will wrap up on September 28 with a closing Night Gala screening of the Cannes Grand Prix Winner “Sentimental Value” by Danish filmmaker Joachim Trier.
Artistic director Brian Owens expressed excitement about this year’s lineup, noting that the special presentations are exceptional. The festival will feature a diverse range of films, including the psychological drama “After the Hunt” starring Julia Roberts and Andrew Garfield, as well as Jafar Panahi’s Palme d’Or winning thriller “It was just an accident.”
Other notable films to be screened include “A Private Life” with Jodie Foster, “Kiss of the Spider Woman” starring Jennifer Lopez, and the documentary “John Candy: I Like Me” directed by Colin Hanks. Local films will also take the spotlight, showcasing stories of indigenous masculinity, romance, comedy drama, and more.
Audiences can expect a mix of contemporary world cinema titles from countries such as Japan, Brazil, the United Kingdom, and Spain. Owens encourages festival-goers to explore both big-ticket films and smaller indie productions to fully experience the diverse offerings of the event.
