US Election 2024

Calif. candidate for governor blasts Newsom while walking through riot aftermath

California GOP gubernatorial candidate, Steve Hilton, and former Democratic state senate leader Gloria Romero spoke to Fox News Digital outside a graffiti-covered Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) station as anti-Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) riots ravage the streets of LA. Hilton expressed shock at the scale of the graffiti, calling it a symbol of the collapse of law and order in the city.

Hilton, who recently declared his candidacy for governor, has been critical of current Governor Gavin Newsom’s handling of the riots. Hilton described Newsom as a “total joke” and unfit for leadership in the state. He accused Newsom of focusing more on his feud with President Donald Trump than on maintaining law and order and protecting the community.

Former Democratic state senate leader Gloria Romero, who has since switched to the Republican party, joined Hilton in the interview. Romero expressed her disillusionment with the Democratic party, citing its shift towards far-left ideologies. She highlighted the dangers of unvetted individuals entering the country, including convicted criminals and sex traffickers.

As riots continue to escalate in Los Angeles, Newsom has remained defiant in his stance against Trump. Some speculate that Newsom’s actions are positioning him as a leader in the anti-Trump movement and possibly as a contender for the Democratic presidential nomination in the future.

With Newsom termed out as governor, Hilton and other GOP hopefuls see an opportunity to flip the state red for the first time in over a decade. The upcoming gubernatorial race in California is expected to be highly contested and closely watched by both parties.

In the midst of the chaos and unrest in Los Angeles, Hilton and Romero are calling for a return to law and order and a focus on protecting the community. They are advocating for a change in leadership that prioritizes the safety and well-being of all Californians. As the state grapples with the aftermath of the riots, the upcoming election will be crucial in determining the future direction of California.
