California homeless woman set on fire in horrific attack

A shocking incident unfolded in South Sacramento on April 26, as captured on surveillance video, showing a driver stopping her car next to a homeless encampment. The driver, identified as 34-year-old Jacqueline Popaibarra, engaged in a heated argument with a 49-year-old homeless woman who was preparing to sleep for the night, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.
In a disturbing turn of events, Popaibarra allegedly poured a liquid, believed to be a fire accelerant, on the victim before setting her on fire. As bystanders rushed to extinguish the flames, Popaibarra callously kicked the severely burned woman before calmly returning to her vehicle and fleeing the scene.
The victim sustained burns covering one-third of her body, including her face, arms, torso, and back. She was rushed to the hospital and placed on a ventilator for several days, rendering her unable to provide a statement to law enforcement.
Despite the victim’s inability to speak, she positively identified Popaibarra as her attacker. Popaibarra was subsequently arrested on an unrelated robbery charge and is currently held in custody on $400,000 bail for the alleged attack.
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office has yet to respond to requests for comment on the incident.
