Cameron Hamilton, acting administrator, out at FEMA

Acting FEMA Administrator Cameron Hamilton has been removed from his position, just a day after warning against President Donald Trump’s proposal to eliminate the agency. David Richardson has now taken over as the Senior Official Performing the duties of the FEMA Administrator.
Hamilton, who previously served in the U.S. Navy with SEAL Team 8, had been leading FEMA since January. However, Deputy Homeland Security Secretary Troy Edgar and Trump advisor Corey Lewandowski informed him of his ouster at the Department of Homeland Security headquarters.
While both Trump and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem have expressed support for cutting FEMA, Hamilton disagreed with this approach during a hearing with lawmakers. He emphasized that eliminating FEMA would not be in the best interest of the American people.
In a separate incident, Trump visited North Carolina in January to assess the state’s recovery efforts following Hurricane Helene. During this visit, he mentioned plans to overhaul or potentially eliminate FEMA, citing his belief that the agency is ineffective.
It remains to be seen how FEMA will move forward under new leadership. The agency plays a crucial role in providing disaster relief and emergency response services to communities in need. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
