The Canadian women’s hockey team has secured their spot in Sunday’s gold-medal game after avenging last year’s loss to the Czech Republic with a 4-2 victory in the semifinals at the women’s U18 hockey world championship in Finland.

Caileigh Tiller and Stryker Zablocki each had a goal and an assist, while Hayley McDonald and Sofia Ismael also found the back of the net for Canada.

Chloe Primerano contributed with two assists, helping Canada’s offense, and goalie Marilou Grenier made 19 saves out of the 21 shots she faced.

The Czech Republic’s Linda Vocetkova and Julie Jebouskova managed to score, with Daniela Novakova making 43 saves in the losing effort.

Canada’s victory not only secures them a spot in the gold-medal game but also provides them with a chance to redeem last year’s semifinal defeat at the hands of the Czechs.

The Canadians will now face off against the defending champion Americans, who narrowly defeated Sweden 2-1 in the first semifinal game.

All previous editions of the U18 world championship have been dominated by either the U.S. or Canada, with the U.S. winning 9 times and Canada claiming victory 7 times.
