Canada makes changes to starting lineup to face Wales at Women’s Rugby World Cup

Canada coach Kevin Rouet has announced six changes to his starting lineup for the upcoming clash against Wales at the Women’s Rugby World Cup in England. The alterations include five adjustments in the forward pack, along with the addition of wing Asia Hogan-Rochester to the backline.
Rouet emphasized the importance of having a strong team of 23 players, leading to a rotation strategy for the upcoming match. After a dominant 65-7 victory over Fiji in their tournament opener, the Canadians are gearing up to face Wales, who recently slipped to the 10th spot in the rankings following a 38-8 loss to Scotland.
The match is scheduled to take place at Salford Community Stadium in Manchester, where Wales previously played their first game. Rouet’s lineup changes include a new front row consisting of McKinley Hunt, Emily Tuttosi, and DaLeaka Menin, while Brittany Kassil, Gillian Boag, and Olivia DeMerchant are set to support from the bench.
Veteran player Tyson Beukeboom is on the verge of making history by equaling the record for the most-capped Canadian rugby player when she earns her 80th cap. With Beukeboom’s experience and leadership, she is expected to make a significant impact on the team’s performance.
In addition to Beukeboom, Hogan-Rochester will be making her World Cup debut, filling in for the injured Fancy Bermudez. The rest of the backline remains unchanged, with standout performer Julia Schell, who scored six tries in the previous match against Fiji, leading the charge.
With a combined total of 509 caps in the starting lineup and 284 caps on the bench, Canada is well-equipped to take on Wales. The team’s flawless execution in set pieces, winning all scrums and lineouts in the previous match, showcases their strength and preparation for the upcoming challenge.
Wales, on the other hand, has made seven changes to their lineup, with flanker Bethan Lewis taking on a leadership role in the absence of injured co-captains. Despite the challenges ahead, Wales coach Sean Lynn remains optimistic and focused on delivering a strong performance against the formidable Canadian team.
As the tournament progresses, Canada is eyeing a showdown with Australia in the quarterfinals, making each match crucial for their path to success. The upcoming clash with Wales will test Canada’s strength and determination as they aim to secure another victory in their quest for World Cup glory.
