Canada Post, union holding 2 days of talks after meeting with mediators

Canadian Union of Postal Workers to Hold Two Days of Talks with Canada Post

The Canadian Union of Postal Workers has announced that it will be engaging in two days of discussions with Canada Post in an effort to reach a resolution in their ongoing negotiations.

Mediation Efforts Underway

After meeting with federal mediators on Tuesday, both parties have agreed to further discussions on Friday and Monday. This comes after postal workers rejected Canada Post’s latest proposal, which included wage increases of approximately 13% over a four-year period and plans to incorporate more part-time workers.

The union has maintained its national overtime ban as negotiations continue.

Longstanding Negotiations

The negotiations for a new collective agreement have been ongoing for over a year and a half, with both sides working to find common ground on various issues.

Modernization Efforts

A spokesperson for Canada Post emphasized the need for modernization within the Crown corporation, citing declining letter mail volumes and increasing competition in the parcel business as challenges that must be addressed.

Canada Post is eager to hear a detailed response from the union during the upcoming meetings, as they seek to tackle the pressing challenges facing the postal service.
