Canada’s Dabrowski, partner Routliffe advance to 3rd round in U.S. Open women’s doubles

Ottawa’s Gabriela Dabrowski and New Zealand’s Erin Routliffe have advanced to the third round of the U.S. Open after defeating Quinn Gleason of the United States and Ingrid Martins of Brazil in a thrilling women’s doubles match. The third-seeded duo emerged victorious with a 6-7 (4), 6-4, 6-2 win on Sunday.

The match saw a back-and-forth first set, with Dabrowski and Routliffe eventually gaining a 4-2 lead in the second set. Despite their opponents’ efforts to narrow the gap, the duo maintained control and secured the win with a 4-0 lead in the third set.

Dabrowski and Routliffe were able to break on three of their four chances during the two-hour, 20-minute match. They will now face 13th-seeded Cristina Bucsa of Spain and Nicole Melichar-Martinez of the U.S. in the next round.

In women’s singles action, Jessica Pegula continued her impressive run at the U.S. Open by defeating Ann Li in straight sets to advance to the quarterfinals. Pegula, the No. 4 seed, has yet to drop a set in this year’s tournament and is set to face Barbora Krejcikova in the next round.

Pegula, who reached the final at the U.S. Open last year, expressed satisfaction with her performance and credited her improved play to recent adjustments in her game. She will be looking to go further in the tournament and secure another shot at the title.
