Canada’s Homan repeats as curling world champion with win over Switzerland’s Tirinzoni in rematch

Rachel Homan’s Canadian curling team has made history once again, clinching the women’s world championship title with a commanding 7-3 victory over Switzerland’s Silvana Tirinzoni in Uijeongbu, South Korea. Homan, Tracy Fleury, Emma Miskew, and Sarah Wilkes, representing the Ottawa Curling Club, have become the first Canadian team to successfully defend their world championship title since Sandra Schmirler’s team achieved the feat in 1993 and 1994.
In a post-match press release, Homan expressed her pride in her team’s exceptional performance, stating, “My team was just throwing it so well, so I know exactly where to put the broom and the girls managed it so well.” This victory marks the second consecutive year that the Canadian team has overcome Tirinzoni’s squad in the world championship final, following a 7-5 win in Sydney, N.S., in 2024.
“We’re so happy we could do Canada proud and bring home the gold again. Back-to-back is an unbelievable feeling,” Homan remarked. This triumph marks Homan and Miskew’s third career world championship titles, having previously secured the victory in 2017 in Beijing. Additionally, it marks the second world gold for Fleury and Wilkes, solidifying their status as formidable competitors in the world of curling.
Looking ahead, Homan’s team has secured a coveted spot in November’s Olympic trials in Halifax, where they will vie for the opportunity to represent Canada at the upcoming Winter Olympic Games in Italy. With their remarkable skill and unwavering determination, Homan’s Canadian curling team continues to set the standard for excellence in the sport, inspiring fans and fellow athletes alike with their exceptional performances on the ice.
