Canada’s Schwinghammer claims World Cup moguls bronze, Kingsbury well off the podium

Canadian freestyle skier Maïa Schwinghammer continues to make her mark on the World Cup moguls circuit, claiming a bronze medal in Deer Valley, Utah. The Saskatoon native, who recently secured her first career World Cup victory in Val St. Come, Que., finished behind American Jaelin Kauf and French skier Perrine Laffont in the competition.

Schwinghammer currently holds the third spot in the women’s overall World Cup moguls standings, with Laffont and Kauf leading the pack. The 32-year-old skier is on an impressive four-win streak across moguls and dual moguls events, inching closer to a career milestone of 100 World Cup victories.

On the men’s side, Mikael Kingsbury, the overall leader from Deux-Montagnes, Que., faced a setback in Deer Valley. Kingsbury failed to make the six-man final after losing his balance on a mogul during his second run, preventing him from executing the final jump.

In the men’s event, Julien Viel of Mont-Saint-Anne, Que., finished in fourth place. Japan’s Ikuma Horishima clinched the top spot, followed by Kazakhstan’s Pavel Kolmakov in second and French skier Benjamin Cavet in third.

Looking ahead, Canadian skiers will compete in aerials on Friday and dual moguls on Saturday in Deer Valley. Fans can catch live coverage of the events on CBCSports.ca and CBC Gem, with a detailed streaming schedule available on the platforms.

The World Cup moguls competition in Deer Valley showcased the incredible talent and determination of Canadian and international freestyle skiers, setting the stage for more thrilling performances in the upcoming events.
