Canadian Premier League to host regular-season game in Quebec City
The Canadian Premier League Expands to Quebec City for “On Tour” Series
The Canadian Premier League is set to host a regular-season game in Quebec City on May 31, featuring York United FC and Halifax Wanderers FC. This marks the league’s second neutral-site contest, following the success of last year’s match in Kelowna, B.C. where Vancouver FC and Cavalry FC played to a scoreless draw.
Commissioner Mark Noonan expressed excitement about expanding the league’s footprint and assessing new markets by bringing live CPL action to Quebec City. He noted the success of the previous “On Tour” match in Kelowna and looks forward to engaging with the community in Quebec City.
The game will take place at Telus Stadium, a 12,750-seat venue with a history of hosting major sporting events, including Vanier Cups and CFL games. This event will provide a unique opportunity for Quebec City residents to experience professional soccer up close.
Halifax Wanderers FC, known for having a significant number of Quebec-born or raised players, will bring a strong presence to the game. Fans can expect to see veteran midfielder Jeremy Gagnon-Lapare in action, showcasing the talent and diversity within the CPL.
The Canadian Premier League’s seventh season kicks off with a triple-header on Saturday, featuring exciting matchups such as Halifax at Atletico Ottawa and Cavalry FC at Forge FC. Sunday’s schedule includes York at Vancouver FC, setting the stage for a thrilling start to the season.
