Canadian Rapper Tory Lanez Hospitalized After Attack at California Prison

Canadian rapper Tory Lanez, whose legal name is Daystar Peterson, was hospitalized after an attack on Monday at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi, where he is serving a 10-year sentence for shooting hip-hop star Megan Thee Stallion in the feet, authorities confirmed.

The incident occurred at around 7:20 a.m. at a housing unit within the prison, according to Pedro Calderon Michel, a spokesperson for the state Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. While Michel did not provide specific details on how Lanez was attacked, multiple reports indicated that he was stabbed.

Following the attack, prison staff administered medical assistance to Lanez and promptly contacted emergency services. He was then transported to an outside hospital for further treatment. The prison’s investigative unit, along with the Kern County District Attorney’s Office, are currently conducting an investigation into the incident.

In December 2022, Lanez was convicted on three felony charges, including assault with a semi-automatic firearm, possession of a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence.

During the trial, Megan Thee Stallion, whose legal name is Megan Pete, testified that in July 2020, Lanez had fired a gun at the back of her feet and demanded that she dance as she walked away from a vehicle they were both in after leaving a party at Kylie Jenner’s residence in Hollywood Hills.

Despite a motion for a new trial being rejected by the judge, Lanez’s legal team is currently in the process of appealing his conviction. At this time, they have not responded to requests for comments on the recent incident.

Earlier this year, Megan alleged that Lanez was engaging in harassment from prison through intermediaries. As a result, a judge issued a protective order extending until 2030, directing Lanez to cease any form of harassment or communication with Megan.
