Sarah Mitton showcased her strength and skill in the Women’s Shot Put competition at the Wanda Diamond League Final, ultimately securing a third-place finish after a controversial ruling.

The Canadian athlete, hailing from Brooklyn, NS, initially appeared to have clinched victory with a top throw of 20.67 meters, just shy of her personal best.

However, a protest led to Mitton’s disqualification as she was deemed to have stepped out of the circle before the shot landed. This decision propelled Jessica Schilder of the Netherlands to the top spot with a throw of 20.26 meters, followed by Chase Jackson of the United States in second place with a distance of 20.08 meters. Mitton settled for third with her next best throw measuring 19.99 meters.

Despite the setback, Mitton remains a formidable force in the shot put event, boasting the third-longest throw of the season at 20.68 meters. With the world championships on the horizon in Tokyo this September, Mitton is poised to showcase her talent on the global stage once again.
