Canadian short track skaters win 4 medals, including 3 golds at World Tour event
Canada’s short track speed skating team showcased their exceptional teamwork and talent during the second stop of the ISU Short Track World Tour in Montreal, securing four medals, including three gold, on home ice.
The highlight of the day was the women’s relay team consisting of Kim Boutin, Danae Blais, Florence Brunelle, and Rikki Doak, who clinched the gold medal with a remarkable time of 4:07.841 in the 3,000-meter event. Despite facing a setback in the semifinals due to a fall, the Canadian quartet displayed resilience and determination, ultimately emerging victorious in the A Final. Brunelle’s impressive performance in the final leg, where she overtook her competitors to give Canada the lead, paved the way for Boutin to sprint to the finish line and secure the gold medal.
In individual distances, Canada continued its dominance with three more medals. William Dandjinou, the current Crystal Globe points leader, claimed the top spot in the men’s 1,500 meters for the second consecutive weekend, posting a time of 2:17.138. Steven Dubois also shone in the men’s 500 meters, taking home the gold medal in a thrilling race.
