Canadian sprint canoeist Katie Vincent made headlines on Sunday at the national trials in Montreal by setting a new world record in the women’s C-1 500-metre event. The 29-year-old Olympic champion clocked a time of two minutes 0.609 seconds in the final, surpassing the previous mark of 2:00.73 set by Alena Nazdrova of Belarus at the 2019 world championships in Szeged, Hungary.

Her winning time of 44.12 seconds also set a new world record.
