Canadians Denis Shapovalov, Felix Auger-Aliassime Advance at US Open

Canadian tennis stars Denis Shapovalov and Felix Auger-Aliassime advanced to the second round of the US Open with impressive victories on Tuesday.
Shapovalov, ranked 27th in the men’s singles, displayed dominant form in his first-round match, defeating Hungary’s Marton Fucsovics 6-4, 6-4, 6-0.
On the other hand, Auger-Aliassime, ranked 25th, faced a tougher challenge from British player Billy Harris but managed to secure a straight-sets victory of 6-4, 7-6 (8), 6-4.
With these wins, all three seeded Canadians in the men’s singles draw have progressed to the second round, following Gabriel Diallo Damir Dzumhur’s victory on Monday.
Shapovalov is set to face French wildcard Valentin Royer in the next round on Thursday, while Auger-Aliassime awaits the winner of the match between French veteran Gael Monfils and Russian Roman Safiullin.
In his match against Fucsovics, Shapovalov showed great composure and skill, clinching crucial points at key moments to secure a comfortable victory. The Canadian maintained his momentum throughout the match, eventually closing it out in style.
Auger-Aliassime, known for his powerful serve, utilized his strengths to overcome a resilient opponent in Harris. Despite facing some challenges in the second set, the Canadian showcased his determination and skill to come out on top.
Both players have had success in previous Grand Slam tournaments, with Auger-Aliassime reaching the semi-finals of the US Open in 2021 and Shapovalov making it to the quarterfinals in 2020.
