Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand took to social media to urge Canadians in the Middle East to reach out to the Department of Global Affairs if they require emergency assistance. She condemned Iran’s attack on Israel and emphasized the importance of both countries exercising restraint.
Prime Minister Mark Carney also weighed in on the situation, calling for Israel and Iran to show maximum restraint and pursue a diplomatic solution. He criticized Iran’s missile strikes on Israel while emphasizing Israel’s right to defend itself.
Carney convened the National Security Council to ensure the protection of Canadian nationals and diplomatic missions in the region. He expressed concern over Iran’s nuclear program and its missile attacks on Israel, stating that they pose a threat to regional peace.
Israel’s defense minister issued a warning to Iran, stating that Tehran will face consequences if it continues firing missiles. The conflict escalated after Israel launched a surprise attack on Iranian nuclear and military sites, resulting in the deaths of several top generals.
As the situation continues to unfold, Canada remains committed to promoting peaceful resolutions and encourages all parties to prioritize diplomacy. It is essential for all nations involved to exercise restraint and work towards de-escalating tensions in the region.
