Carbon monoxide leak temporarily closes Sydney Mines arena

A carbon monoxide leak at the arena in Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia, has caused a disruption in the under-15 hockey tournament that was scheduled to take place there. Fire crews were called to the scene at 7:20 p.m. on Saturday evening to address the issue.
Paul MacCormick, the fire chief of the Sydney Mines Volunteer Fire Department, reported that tests conducted by the department revealed the presence of carbon monoxide in the air. As a safety precaution, the crew remained on-site for two hours to ventilate the building. Consequently, the arena has been temporarily closed until further notice.
In light of the situation, the under-15 hockey tournament has been relocated to the Emera Centre in North Sydney. The manager of the Sydney Mines & District Community Centre declined to provide any comments regarding the incident.
Councillor Gordon MacDonald advised individuals who may be experiencing symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning to seek medical attention promptly by contacting their healthcare provider or visiting the emergency department.
