Liberal Leader Mark Carney Promises to Support Nova Scotia Industries Amid Political Tensions

During a campaign event in Upper Onslow, Colchester County, Liberal Leader Mark Carney made a bold promise to sustain Nova Scotia industries in the face of ongoing political tensions with the United States. Carney reassured attendees that a Liberal government would provide support to industries not only in Nova Scotia but across the country as they navigate through U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariffs and threats to Canada’s sovereignty.

Carney emphasized the importance of Canada’s independence, stating, “We’re building this big country because we are in control of our future. It doesn’t matter what Trump tweets, we can build millions of houses with Canadian technology, Canadian workers, and Nova Scotia lumber.”

In addition to addressing economic concerns, Carney spoke about the Canadian ships and icebreakers being constructed in Halifax to safeguard the Canadian Arctic and defend the country from potential threats originating from both the south and across the ocean.

With only a week left before the April 28 election, Carney’s message resonated with the residents of Upper Onslow, who expressed their support for his calm leadership during turbulent times.

Anthony Kawalski praised Carney’s approach, stating, “In a very turbulent time where tariffs and goodness knows what are causing so much harm and psychological distress, we need a calm leadership and a calm government.”

Rod Norrie highlighted the importance of affordability and freedom of expression, stating, “Making life more viable and easy for people in this country. We are so lucky to be able to voice our opinions freely.”

While the majority of attendees showed their support for Carney, a small group of protesters also made their presence known at the event. Their contrasting views underscored the need for unity within Canada.

Jim Baker, one of the protesters, emphasized the importance of unity in the face of external threats, stating, “I would just like to bring some unity to the country and fight against the tariffs. I hope we can build this country stronger than we have been.”

Joanne Wells echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the significance of democracy during the election. She expressed concern over the erosion of respect in society, stating, “You see the fascism, right-wing, loud, ignorance. It’s like respect is gone.”

As the election approaches, Carney’s commitment to supporting Nova Scotia industries and defending Canadian sovereignty remains a central theme in his campaign, resonating with voters who prioritize unity, democracy, and economic stability.
