Case against White House advisor Peter Navarro tossed by Trump DOJ

A federal judge has officially closed the case against White House trade advisor Peter Navarro regarding his alleged use of a private email for government business and mishandling of presidential records during his time in the first Trump administration. Navarro, who currently serves as a senior counselor for trade and manufacturing, had been the subject of an investigation by the Justice Department under President Joe Biden.

The lawsuit against Navarro accused him of using a non-official email account, specifically a ProtonMail account, to send and receive emails. It was alleged that by using this unofficial email account, Navarro failed to turn over presidential records to the National Archives and Records Administration.

The decision to dismiss the case, which was filed in 2022, came after the Trump-led Justice Department requested the court to do so. In a joint filing by the Justice Department and Navarro’s attorney, it was stated that each party would bear their own fees and costs, without providing further explanation for abandoning the case.

Navarro had previously served four months in prison after being convicted in a separate case for refusing to cooperate with a congressional investigation into the January 6 attack on the Capitol. He argued that his refusal to testify was protected by executive privilege.

Following his release from prison, Navarro made an appearance at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee. He criticized the case against him as politically motivated by the Biden administration and warned others to be cautious, stating, “if they can come for me, if they can come for Donald Trump, be careful. They will come for you.”

The Trump-led Justice Department is reportedly considering overturning Navarro’s conviction, aligning with a trend of revisiting prosecutions against Trump allies. This potential move reflects a broader pattern within the administration.

In conclusion, the case against Peter Navarro has been closed by a federal judge, bringing an end to the allegations of using a private email for government business and mishandling presidential records. Navarro’s legal challenges and political statements continue to be a subject of interest and scrutiny in the current political landscape.
