Celebrini, Konecny among first 15 players named by Hockey Canada for world championship

The Canadian national hockey team has announced its roster for the upcoming world hockey championship, with some familiar faces and rising stars making the cut. Leading scorer Travis Konecny of the Philadelphia Flyers, Calgary Flames defenceman MacKenzie Weegar, and young talents Macklin Celebrini of the San Jose Sharks and Adam Fantilli of the Columbus Blue Jackets are among the 15 players selected for the tournament.

Joining them are veteran forwards Bo Horvat of the New York Islanders, Ryan O’Reilly of the Nashville Predators, and Flyers defenceman Travis Sanheim. This group of players brings a mix of experience and skill to the team, with several players having represented Canada at the world championship before.

Konecny and Sanheim were part of Canada’s championship-winning team at the 2025 4 Nations Face-Off, showcasing their ability to perform on the international stage. The roster also includes goaltender Dylan Garand of the Hartford Wolf Pack, forwards Barrett Hayton, Will Cuylle, and Tyson Foerster, as well as defencemen Noah Dobson and Ryker Evans.

Hockey Canada has indicated that the remaining spots on the roster will be filled once the results of the NHL playoffs are known. The team will be led by head coach Dean Evason of the Columbus Blue Jackets, who will be looking to guide Canada to success in the tournament.

Canada’s first game will be against Slovenia on May 10 in Stockholm, as they aim to improve on their fourth-place finish from last year’s world championship. The team will be looking to build on their success from previous tournaments, including their record 28th gold medal win in Finland and Latvia.
