Sea Bears Mourn the Loss of Centre Chad Posthumus
The basketball community is in mourning after the tragic passing of Sea Bears centre Chad Posthumus at the young age of 33. The Sea Bears announced on social media that Posthumus passed away on Wednesday, following complications from a surgery for a brain aneurysm he suffered during a training session.
Posthumus, a native of Winnipeg, was the Sea Bears’ first-ever signing when the team was established in 2023. He served as the team’s captain for the past two seasons, making a significant impact both on and off the court.
The Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) also paid tribute to Posthumus, describing him as one of the league’s most beloved players. “Chad had a love for people and for the game of basketball that lit up even the largest arenas,” the CEBL stated in a press release. “His spirit and passion touched the hearts of fans and inspired teammates, leaving a lasting legacy in Canadian basketball.”
Posthumus’ contributions to the sport and his positive influence on those around him have left a profound impact on the basketball community. The Sea Bears have set up an online Book of Condolences on their website for fans and well-wishers to pay their respects to the late basketball star.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Chad Posthumus’ family, friends, teammates, and fans during this difficult time as they mourn the loss of a talented athlete and a beloved member of the basketball community.
