Chiefs give injury update on Patrick Mahomes after getting shaken up in win over Browns
The Kansas City Chiefs secured another victory on Sunday, defeating the Cleveland Browns on the road. However, the win came at a cost as quarterback Patrick Mahomes suffered an injury during the game.
In the final minutes of the fourth quarter, Mahomes was tackled hard while attempting a pass, forcing him to leave the game. Carson Wentz stepped in to replace him for the remainder of the game.
On a crucial 4th-down play, Mahomes was hit by Browns defensive lineman Dalvin Tomlinson, who wrapped up Mahomes’ ankle and bent him backward. The impact left Mahomes visibly in pain as he limped off the field with assistance.
After the game, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid provided an update on Mahomes’ condition, stating that his right ankle was sore but not broken. Mahomes will begin rehab, and further evaluation will determine the extent of his injury.
According to NFL Network, Mahomes is considered week-to-week following negative X-rays, but additional tests scheduled for Monday will provide a clearer timeline for his return.
Despite the injury, Mahomes managed to finish the game with 159 passing yards, connecting with receivers Xavier Worthy and DeAndre Hopkins. The Chiefs will await further medical evaluation to determine the next steps for their star quarterback.
