Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes admits Super Bowl loss to Tom Brady, Buccaneers still stings

Patrick Mahomes has been a key player in the Kansas City Chiefs’ success, helping them secure back-to-back Vince Lombardi Trophies. With Super Bowl MVP honors for both championships, Mahomes has solidified his place as a top quarterback in the NFL.

In the 2020 Super Bowl against the San Francisco 49ers, Mahomes earned his first Super Bowl MVP title. However, despite his success, Mahomes still reflects on his second Super Bowl appearance, where the Chiefs fell short against Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

In a recent interview in New Orleans, the location of this year’s Super Bowl, Mahomes admitted that the loss to the Buccaneers still haunts him. He specifically mentioned the 31-9 defeat as a game that he continues to think about.

In that game, Mahomes struggled with 270 passing yards, no touchdowns, and two interceptions, while Brady led the Buccaneers to victory with 201 passing yards, three touchdowns, and no turnovers. The loss serves as motivation for Mahomes as he looks to lead the Chiefs to another Super Bowl title.

This year, instead of facing off against Brady, Mahomes will be focusing on countering Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles. Hurts, who is making his second career appearance in the Super Bowl, will be looking to avenge the Eagles’ loss to the Chiefs in the 2023 Super Bowl.

Super Bowl LIX coverage will begin on FOX at 1 p.m. ET, with the game kicking off at 6:30 p.m. ET. Fans can stream the game for free on Tubi, making it accessible to a wide audience. The highly anticipated matchup between the Chiefs and the Eagles promises to be an exciting game for football fans everywhere.
