The global trade war has escalated considerably this morning, with China slapping an 84 per cent retaliatory tariff on U.S. exports in response to Trump’s 104 per cent levy on Chinese exports.

Global markets are rejecting the move this morning, and U.S. stock futures are looking grim, too.

Canada Imposes Retaliatory Tariffs on U.S.

Meanwhile, Canada’s own retaliatory tariffs against the U.S. also came into effect today.

The federal government imposed a 25 per cent tariff on non-CUSMA-compliant vehicles — and non-Canadian, non-Mexican components in CUSMA-compliant vehicles — from the U.S.
