Cincinnati Bearcats: Steve Toyloy, former men’s basketball player, dead at 37

Steve Toyloy, a former center for the Cincinnati Bearcats men’s basketball team, passed away at the age of 37, as announced by the school on social media on Sunday. The cause of his death has not been disclosed.
Toyloy played for the Bearcats during his junior and senior seasons, appearing in 67 games and averaging 15.8 minutes per game. Throughout his career, he averaged 3.6 points and 3.5 rebounds per game. He played under head coach Mick Cronin and helped the team achieve a record of 18-14 in 2008-09 and 19-16 in 2009-10. The team made it to the NIT in 2010 but missed the postseason in 2009.
Although Toyloy did not make it to the NBA, he continued his basketball career internationally, playing in countries such as Turkey, Brazil, and Malaysia. In 2019, he was named the MVP of the Malaysia Pro League. As recently as 2023, Toyloy was still actively playing basketball, according to sports writer Jordan Yap.
