College football reporter calls out Miami mascot for flirting during Syracuse upset

The Miami Hurricanes had a tough weekend, not just on the field but also with their mascot, Sebastian the Ibis. CNY Central anchor and reporter Ashley Wenskoski was covering the Syracuse vs. Miami game when she called out Sebastian for hitting on her on the sidelines.

In a post on X, Wenskoski shared, “Sebastian the Ibis just kneeled down and asked for my number mid-drive.” It seems Sebastian had other priorities besides the game as Miami was struggling in the 4th quarter against Syracuse. The Orange ultimately came out on top with a 42-38 win, knocking Miami out of the ACC championship game.

Quarterback Kyle McCord played a pivotal role in Syracuse’s victory, completing 26 of 36 passes for 380 yards and three touchdowns. This win marked Syracuse’s first top-10 victory since 2017, making it a significant moment for the program.

With Miami’s playoff hopes now uncertain, it’s understandable that Sebastian may have been distracted. Wenskoski acknowledged the impressive performance of Syracuse football, stating, “[Head coach] Fran Brown has re-energized a program in a fantastic sports town. I guess Miami’s mascot simply couldn’t watch that 4th quarter. Can’t blame him.”

Sebastian responded to the social media call-out with a nonchalant attitude, commenting, “They do anything for clout.” Despite the setback, Miami fans and supporters will have to regroup and refocus as they await the decision of the CFP selection committee.
