Colorado’s Deion Sanders reveals what smell still surprises him at home games

Deion Sanders, the head coach of Colorado’s football team, always comes prepared for game days. However, there is one thing that still surprises him during home games at Folsom Field – the smell of weed in the second quarter.
During an interview with CBS Sports Colorado, Sanders, a Pro Football Hall of Famer, expressed his surprise at the distinct smell that wafts through the stadium during a specific point in the game. “The smell of weed in the second quarter surprised the heck out of me. Like every game I’m like, ‘Dang.’ It seems like it’s like a ‘light-up’ quarter, you know what I’m saying? Like so is this the quarter that y’all chose?” Sanders shared.
Despite the unexpected aroma, Sanders is entering his third season as head coach of the Buffaloes with a 7-5 record at home in his first two years. In 2023, Colorado went 2-4 at home, but in 2024, they improved to 5-1.
This season, Sanders will be without last year’s Heisman Trophy winner, Travis Hunter, and his son, Shedeur Sanders. However, he remains focused on leading his team to success, starting with the season opener against Georgia Tech at home on Friday at 8 p.m. ET.
Although the roster may have changed, one thing Sanders can still count on is the unexpected smell of weed in the second quarter. It’s a unique aspect of home games at Folsom Field that continues to catch him off guard.
As Sanders navigates the challenges of a new season, he remains dedicated to his role as head coach and looks forward to the excitement and surprises that each game day brings. Stay tuned for more updates on Colorado’s football season as they strive for success under Sanders’ leadership.
